Seasonal Menus Offer New Ways to Promote Your Restaurant

Seasonal Menus Offer New Ways to Promote Your Restaurant

Posted: Aug. 08, 2018

If you haven’t already, create a seasonal menu that highlights the freshest produce and fruits available.

August and September are abundant with delicious, seasonal ingredients that belong on your restaurant menu. If you haven’t already, start offering a seasonal menu. Restaurants that do are having great success: They see a 26% increase in orders and a 23% increase in average ticket size.

What’s more, seasonal menus are wonderful opportunities to connect with more patrons and impress clientele. Plus, you can avoid falling into a gastronomic rut.

By capitalizing on the farm-fresh abundance available every month, you can boost your revenue stream throughout the year.

Bring in New Recipes

Depending on the season, start each month by highlighting different ingredients and types of recipes. For example, during the summer months, feature berry-rich desserts or fresh corn-on-the-cob. Get inspired by the season’s unique produce to create brand new recipes to excite customers. They can be inventive, new recipes, or just different versions of your classic dishes.

Customers are more open-minded when they are perusing seasonal menus, which makes it the perfect moment to bring out new dishes you’ve been wanting to try.

Market your seasonal menus on social media and your website to grow customers’ interest. For a complete introduction to your new seasonal menu service, include a small note in the menu that goes something like this: Our restaurant is going to be taking some new risks in the upcoming months. We are in the business of providing the best food, and that means serving the freshest ingredients. We hope you will join us on our culinary journey through the seasons!

As important as it is to inform your customers, preparing your staff is equally so. Update your restaurant point-of-sale and educate your staff on the types of seasonal dishes that will be added. Your FOH should be well-versed in all the cooking techniques and special ingredients that are on the menu. For the best results, hold a tasting meeting whenever there is a new recipe being served.

With these new menu additions, your restaurant stands out as important and on-trend.

Offer Seasonal Menus Every Day

It’s common for restaurants to offer seasonal menus sporadically or only a few times a week, which is why keeping a seasonal menu every day is the ultimate promotional power play. Foodies, loyal customers, and new fans want a place to enjoy great food every day, where they know they can get more of the same delicious seasonal fare.

You are also encouraged to shake things up on the weekend by offering an enticing seasonal brunch menu. Doing so will inspire a sense of loyalty in diners.

If brunch is a new concept for your restaurant, it’s a great way to launch your new brunch menu. Get your customers talking about how special their brunch was at your restaurant, and you can be sure those same folks will be coming to your restaurant throughout the coming months.

But if you don’t offer--or plan to offer--brunch, you can simply offer a seasonal menu for your regular working hours. Make every meal special with a seasonal cocktail addition or wine pairing, and you’ll have a crowd of impressed fans.

And let’s not forget: sports fans! If sports are more your style than boozy brunches, amp up your appetizer menu with items that are easy to share. You’ll score big points with sports fans by turning classic game-day snacks into seasonal versions.

Start a Loyalty Program

“Loyalty program.” Remember these two magic words as you ponder what you will do for new promotions at your restaurant.

As you garner more attention for your seasonal menu, we urge you to consider this option. Take advantage of the buzz by starting a loyalty program—it’s a guaranteed way to bring customers back throughout 2017. Loyalty programs are effective because they make customers feel:

  • Important
  • Appreciated
  • Loyal

All this is enough to bring customers back. But membership in your loyalty program should also provide diners with more--whether that’s preferred treatment (like guaranteed reservation seats at all times) or a monetary incentive. Decide what the incentive is based on your clientele. You know your customers better than anyone does; offer them something they will truly want and value.
