3 Ways to Market Your Restaurant this Summer

Market Your Restaurant this Summer

Posted: May. 30, 2018

It’s not too late to start planning your restaurant’s summer activities. There are several simple and effective marketing campaigns you can prepare during the next few weeks to boost your foot traffic and revenue stream this summer.

The trick to being successful this summer is to be unpredictable. Restaurants tend to fall into gastronomic ruts, from the menu down to the music choices. Instead, let the change of season inspire you.

The hot months are not just the perfect moment to deliver more ambitious food offerings, but it’s an excellent time to look ahead. Most restaurants and bars focus on patio happy hours and seasonal menus.

Bring in the New Recipes

Since winter is over and the onset of cold weather is far away, keep the summer-time spirit going by offering new and improved versions of your classics. That could mean a new pizza or burger, or an entirely new dish altogether. Summer-centric food specials and trendy cocktails inspire customers to shake things up, so don’t worry about diners wanting more of the same old thing. Customers are going to be more open-minded during the summer months, which makes it a great moment to experiment with the hottest culinary trends or bring out new dishes you’ve been wanting to try.

Package them as the “2018 Summer Upgrades” if your clientele is young and tech-savvy, or as the “2018 Summer Classics” for a more traditional crowd. If you want to continue making changes to your menu throughout the year, now is the time to tell them. Include a small note in the menu that goes something like this: In the spirit of the new season, our restaurant is going to be taking some new risks in the upcoming months. We are in the business of providing the best food, and that means making some small changes to our menu. We hope you will join us on our journey of improvement!

Most importantly, you need to prepare your staff on how to get the orders flowing. Have a tasting meeting where all the new dishes can be sampled. Discuss their special ingredients or cooking styles. Then train your servers to talk to customers about the new dishes right off the bat.

By being ahead of the curve, you will stand out as a restaurant that’s important and on trend.

Develop Partnerships with Local Businesses, Like Hotels and Taxi Companies

This is basic marketing 101. Form partnerships with local businesses around you, so you have a cross-promotional strategy in place. If you live in a tourist city, none are as important as hotels, clubs, and taxi companies:

  1. A local hotel can recommend your restaurant to guests, offer a discounted rate to diners, or even distribute invitations to your summer events.
  2. Make a package evening with a nightclub or bar nearby. Start the evening with a meal at your restaurant, and then send customers to your partner’s place for a wilder party.
  3. Preferably, you will send guests on their way via the taxi partnership you also set up. If not, at least work with local cab companies so they will be available to drive party revelers home safely. Some companies might offer free cabs home in exchange for free meals for the drivers at a later date.

Open Your Restaurant on the Weekend and Provide Irresistible Brunch

It’s common for restaurants to avoid the weekend brunch, which is why opening your doors for all-day weekend brunching is the ultimate promotional power playServing brunch has several benefits for restaurants, including building a loyal customer base. Offer an enticing brunch menu and you will inspire a sense of loyalty in diners. Plus, it’s a great way to launch any new dishes. Get customers talking about how great their brunch was to their friends, and you can be sure those same folks will be coming to your restaurant throughout the coming months

Summertime is not a moment for subtly. This time of year is when people are feeling adventurous and excited about upcoming vacations or plans, so take part in the revelry of the season in a robust way.
